In a memo from George P. Neilson to Robb de Graff, Neilson describes John Dollard's distinction between benchmarks and guideposts, two types of orienting data to keep in mind when making shows. Numerous drafts of the guideposts for high reward stories and benchmarks for individual shows and commercials are spelled out by Johnathan Dollard.
