Associated Factory Mutual Fire Insurance Companies maps and plans

Abstract:

The Associated Factory Mutual Fire Insurance Companies comprised twenty-eight mutual insurance firms that specialized in industrial fire insurance. The collection consists of seventy original hand-colored plans and maps primarily depicting textile mills, paper products factories and foundries in New England and New York.

E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company insurance policies

Abstract:

E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company was organized in Paris in 1801 by Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours and his son Eleuthère Irénée du Pont. The collection contains insurance policies with the Union Insurance Company of Philadelphia, Delaware Fire Insurance Company, Wilmington Fire Insurance Company, and the Columbia Insurance Company of Philadelphia. The policies generally cover shipments of saltpeter, gunpowder, goods and merchandise, and the cotton factory Henry Clay Mill.

George H. Gilbert and Co. records

Abstract:

The George H. Gilbert & Company manufactured broadcloth and cloakings in Ware, Massachusetts, and high-grade woolen flannels, for which it developed a national reputation until 1930. The records consist of applications for fire insurance and insurance policies covering the woolen mill, Gilbert's house, tenant housing, and outbuildings.

Abstract:

Gilpin, Van Trump & Montgomery, Inc. provided insurance sales and service to property owners. The business was established in 1865 in Wilmington, Delaware, by businessman James Woolley (1818-1886). By the early-to-mid twentieth century, the company specialized in real estate sales and service, as well as mortgages, becoming Delaware's only full-service real estate organization. The records include minutes, corporate histories, publicity material, as well as information on company properties, and documents the company's rise from a small insurance company to a large, multi-service insurance, real estate, mortgage, and investment firm.

The Insurance & Financial Communicators Association (I.F.C.A.) "is an international organization dedicated to the ongoing professional development of its members in life insurance and related financial services communications." [1] The associations primary objective is to promote the exhange of ideas among its members through educational programs, events, and publications. The primary value of the collection is in its capacity for documenting trends in the marketing of life insurance, and the rationale behind particular advertising campaigns. Case histories and publications aimed at the industry are of most use in this regard. The bulk of the records are of interest only in documenting the internal functions of the organization and the issues which it has perceived as important to the insurance industry.

The New Castle County Mutual Insurance Company was incorporated on February 6, 1849, as a mutual fire insurance company in Wilmington, Delaware. It was later renamed the New Castle Mutual Insurance Company. This small collection consists of seven portrait photographs of presidents and vice presidents of the New Castle County Mutual Insurance Company dating from around 1849 to 1912.

Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company of Philadelphia records

Abstract:

The Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company was organized by a group of Philadelphia Quakers in 1865, and by World War I it had become one of the largest life insurance companies in the country with a strong presence in the New York and Boston markets. The records of the Provident Mutual Insurance Company of Philadelphia are a collection of fragments assembled by the Advertising Department in connection with the company's centennial history.
