Historical note

Resources for Women (RFW) was a consulting company founded by Sarah W. Risher (1941-2019) that provided training programs to government agencies through the Federal Women's Program (FWP), as well as clients in the private sector. Risher grew up near Washington, D.C., and received a philosophy degree from Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. She later worked as a division leader for the Red Cross in Korea. In response to President Lyndon B. Johnson's 1967 Executive Order mandating the establishment of a Federal Women's Program for each federal agency to foster women's employment opportunities in the federal government, Resources for Women conducted workshops for FWPs in the departments of Agriculture, Labor, Justice, and Transportation, among others. Topics included assertiveness training, communications skills, racial and cultural sensitivity, and career development. RFW was active during the 1970s; Risher remained committed to social justice work until her death in 2019.
