Electrochemicals Department, 1953-1960

 Series
Accession: 1803Identifier: 1803-IV.

Dates

  • Creation: 1953-1960

Scope and Contents

Series IV is divided into six subseries: Ceramic products, Chlorine products, Drycleaning, Lysine (amino acid bread additive), Peroxygen products (bleaches), and Subject files.

Subseries A, Ceramic products (1955-1960), contains information on DuPont's porcelain enamel on aluminum (PEA) process, which was used in building materials for construction projects. The bulk of the records consist of photo reports made by companies hired by DuPont to document the use of the product in the construction of a number of public buildings.

Subseries B, Chlorine products (1953-1959), contains the same type of photo reports as Subseries A, documenting the use of DuPont's Triclene D solvent for the vapor degreasing of factory machinery. Negatives of photographs were transferred to the Audiovisual and Digital Initiatives Department.

Subseries C, Drycleaning (1953-1959), contains records from the Drycleaning Section related to the promotion of DuPont's "Perclene" drycleaning solution and promotion of "wash and wear" clothing.

Subseries D, Lysine (amino acid bread additive) (1951-1960), contains information on DuPont's development of lysine, an amino acid for use in fortifying bread. It includes a variety of information promoting "Darvyl," DuPont's trade name for the product, as an additive to bread to give it a higher nutritional value. Also included are records from the Advertising Department's "Baker Program" aimed at convincing bakers to include lysine in their baked goods.

Subseries E, Peroxygen products (bleach) (1955-1960), includes a scrapbook, booklet, and report on bleaches.

Subseries F, Subject files (1956-1959), contains information on general Electrochemicals Department advertising, including correspondence, newsletters, and reports of meetings.
