Advertisements and promotional materials, 1901-1971

 Sub-Series
Accession: 1803Identifier: 1803-I.-H.

Dates

  • Creation: 1901-1971

Scope and Contents

Series I, Subseries H consists of materials from the advertising and promotional materials files maintained by the Advertising Department. The files contain some of the collection's oldest materials, dating back to 1901. Because DuPont made many of the materials used in producing consumer products, many of the items in these files were used to promote DuPont products to store owners and dealers. This subseries contains advertisements for DuPont products, organized by department. The boxes are arranged roughly chronologically by the bulk of materials in each box. The folders within each box are arranged according to the types of materials, such as: pamphlets, blotters, advertisements, etc.

Included in the files are pamphlets, catalogs, broadsides, tearsheets, blotters, window streamers, labels, tags, electrotypes of ads, price sheets, etc. The materials are arranged according to department and product. Products advertised in these ad files include DuPont sporting and smokeless powders; explosives; pyralin, lucite, and plastics; paint products, including DUCO and DULUX; Fabrikoid and Tontine; and other miscellaneous products. Box 43 contains tearsheets of the advertisements that ran in various magazines, arranged by year. Images and themes found in the advertisements in this subseries are noted in the AskSam database records. Additional advertisements are found in Series XI, Marketing Communications Department records.
