This is a group of nine mid-ninteenth century lithographs showing illustrations of Philadelphia factories. The items show the following scenes. Two of them feature lively streetscapes: one showing the factory of Harrison & Newhall, commission merchants, importers, steam sugar refiner, and the other showing the establishment of Thomas Whiye & Company, manufacturer and wholesale dealer of straw goods. There is the Keystone Marble Works of S. F. Jacoby & Company; views include an exterior and interiors of the cutting room, polishing room, saw room, showroom. There are two lithographs showing different views of the Schuykill Falls laboratory of Powers & Weightman, manufacturing chemists. The remaining items show the Bridesburg Machine Works which produced textile machinery and the factory of Cornelius and Baker, manufacturers of lamps, gas fixtures, and chandeliers. The only item that does not show an industrial image represents R. & G.A. Wright, winners of the "gold perfumery medal", presumably awarded at the 19th Exhibition of American Manufacturers held in Philadelphia at the Franklin Institute in October 1849. The text notes that the Wrights were druggists and sellers of "fancy articles."
