Historical Note

DuPont American Industries was formed in 1918 as a holding of the E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company in order to purchase a substantial portion of General Motors and Chevrolet stock. General Motors was struggling and this investment helped keep the company afloat. In 1920, the DuPont Company president Pierre S. du Pont was elected president of General Motors.
