On his way, he complains about the cost of things: newspaper, magazine, bus fare, rent, and living expenses, leaving little for education or savings. On the bus, he reads letter announcing his great-aunt had died and left him $8,000. Instead of going to work, Kip takes time to stroll around town and enjoy the thoughts of all he would do with that money. However, he falls asleep for twelve years, waking in 1951.
