Scope and Contents

The Illustrative materials series includes sketches and drawings, scale drawings and diagrams, and plats of land. The drawings include sketches of the first powder mills and plans of the Eleutherian Mills mansion, local scenery and landscapes, and a cartoon, "The Fathers of the Brandywine," depicting the struggles among the mill owners over water rights. There is also an ink and wash portfolio of drawings showing Du Pont powder mills and machinery circa 1810 to 1830 and plats of property at the Brandywine Works.
