Scope and Contents
A predecessor of SBS, CML Satellite Corporation (CML) was renamed from MCI Lockheed Satellite Corporation (MCIL) in January 1973 in connection with restructuring of its joint ownership. MCI sold its interest in CML to IBM in July 1975 to raise money to meet operating costs and to complete its terrestrial microwave network. CML assets were absorbed into the SBS partnership, purchased by MCI in 1985. Records of CML contain a small group of corporate documents -Board of Directors meeting book, agreements and certificates, for the 1972-1973 (group 1.); CML subject file, incomplete (group 2); and documents reflecting business relations of CML with C T Corporation System, a legal services company associated with The Corporation Trust Company and C T Law Technology, Inc., which provided incorporation, qualification and statutory representation services in the states of the U.S. (group 3). Group 4. shows C T's presentation of SBS in its transitional period from CML. Group 5. consists of miscellaneous folders of CML/MCIL records extracted from MCI Network Engineering records and reflecting transferring of MCIL business to CML. Selected industry publications and press clippings compile group 7. Material within groups is organized alphabetically. The sixth group - Transparencies for the MCIL technical presentations is transferred to the Pictorial Collections Department.
