MCI's acquisition of SBS from International Business Machines (IBM) in February 1986 (the initial agreement announced June 25, 1985) was preceded by more than a year of considerations and negotiation, and after the companies merged, a prolonged process of integration of SBS's assets, operations and personnel required efforts of both former SBS and MCI business structures. Records are divided into four groups. Group 1. SBS merger contains information on SBS's business contacts with RCA Corporation and IBM and post-merger material regarding options of utilization of SBS assets by MCI. Set of acquisition records documents MCI departments' activities directed to the integration of SBS: 2. Department records: i. Personnel; ii. Marketing and advertising; iii. Planning; iv. Real estate and facilities; 3. 1982-1985 chronological regulatory file consists of SBS's tariff applications and technical specifications for the offered services and of pleadings with the FCC in regards with matters sensitive to the SBS offered services; 4. SBS customer notification presents work on preparation of information kits sent in advance, under the regulatory rules, to former SBS customers announcing merger of SBS long distance service SkyLine with MCI services and explaining new options. Other than group 3, material within groups is organized alphabetically.
