Partnership Marketing Partner Subject Files, 1983-1986
Part of collection: MCI Communications Corporation records (2225)
Dates
- Creation: 1983-1986
Scope and Contents
Files include correspondence, memoranda and other documents and material related to MCI's agreements with American Express [AMEX], the Amway Corporation and Sears, Roebuck & Co. [Sears]. The AMEX and Sears agreements provided for those companies to market long distance services to their cardholders, with MCI providing installation and billing services. The Amway agreement allowed distributors of Amway products to market MCI Long-Distance service to their customers. These agreements allowed MCI to provide service to an increased share of the residential market, and increase awareness of MCI service prior to the implementation of Equal Access and Dial-1 through customer balloting and allocation. Files document MCI's attempts to resolve billing systems problems, combat the fraudulent use of unauthorized access codes, and increase partner's interest and investment in the programs.
