Scope and Contents

This subseries includes four sections: (1) corporate documentation; (2) correspondence files; (3) financial records; and (4) Seagram Building (375 Park Avenue) files. (1) The corporate documentation (1957-1981) section includes records regarding Conoco and DuPont stock acquisitions and corporate bond offerings. (2) Fieldsteel's correspondence files document financial relationships with overseas and domestic subsidiaries and include records relating to acquisitions, operations, marketing, advertising, personnel, insurance and meeting minutes. These files are further divided into two parts: International Subsidiaries (1963-1978) and General and Domestic Company Correspondence (1957-1974). (3) The financial records (1955-1968) contained here were created mainly while Fieldsteel served as Assistant Controller and include financial reports of subsidiaries such as Eastern Wine and Liquor Corp., Frankfort Oil Co., and Fromm and Sichel. Also included are a few records regarding Seagram overseas operations. (4) Files in the final section (1946-1962, bulk 1957-1961) are comprised mainly of financial records regarding construction and operation of the company's headquarters at 375 Park Avenue (Seagram Building). Particularly noteworthy is the "Project Skytop" file which includes a report by George A. Fuller Co., Kahn and Jacobs, and Cushman and Wakefield on studies of various plans for the building proposed prior to securing Meis van der Rohe as the project architect.
