Scope and Content

Includes correspondence, press clippings, and publications concerning the Bretton Woods Agreements, with member opinions and committee recommendations to the NFTC regarding the proposed establishment of the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, analyses of various aspects of the agreement's impact on international trade and trade policy, and reports of other organizations, including the American Bankers Association, and the National Association of Manufacturers. Committee correspondence and meeting topics, 1944-1946, mostly concern Bretton Woods. Later topics of meetings, correspondence and presentations include: implementation of the Marshall Plan and other issues of postwar recovery; provision of credit to trading partners; regulation of U.S. business investment in foreign industry, particularly in Britain and European nations; convertibility of currency between trading partners; opinions on the restoration of the gold standard; operation and administration of the Export-Import Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank, with committee correspondence with U.S. congressional committees responsible for oversight of those organizations; European economic integration and its effects; establishment of an export credit and transfer insurance system; regulation of private investments abroad. The files also include invitations to meetings and responses from members; agendas and reports, transcripts of addresses, and minutes of meetings; articles and memoranda on monetary and banking policy in various countries and regions.
