Historical Note
The committees of the National Foreign Trade Council were the mechanism through which the organization tapped the expertise of its individual members. Some of the most important work of the NFTC was thus carried on through its committees, which were of several kinds. The first were standing committees such as the Executive Committee, the Policy Advisory Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Salary Committee. Area committees deal with issues affecting commercial and financial relations between the United States and particular countries or regions. They serve to monitor developments relevant to U.S. business interests in those countries, give advice on specific issues, and recommend actions to be taken by the whole Council. The third type consisted of special technical committees that deal with such matters as taxation, treaties, law, international finance, industrial relations, etc., on a worldwide basis.
