Dates

  • Creation: 1880-1901
  • Creation: 1913-1927

Scope and Content

Contains correspondence of a more business nature with family members: with daughter Marion regarding their mutual interest in horse care, breeding, and races; with his cousin Alfred I. du Pont discussing financial affairs in which they were jointly involved; and with his cousin Edward G. Bradford Jr. an attorney in Wilmington, who performed legal services for William du Pont. There is a noteworthy letter of April 22, 1919, from William's nephew Alexander Duer Irving, written in Paris, where he served as a junior naval aide to President Wilson on his trip to the Paris Peace Conference. The letter contains some vivid details on the American Army of Occupation Headquarters in Koblenz.
