Historical Note
American Marvelle Company was a manufucturer of mannequins used in display windows for merchants in the 1920s. The company moved their plant and offices from from Saginaw to Bay City, Michigan in 1928.
Marvelle developed and patented the mannequins manufactured; a diversified line of women, children, and men display forms. Key features were the mannequins ability to withstand handling and usage, stand alone without support, washable with soap and water, not affected by temperature, and weight only thirty-five pounds.
Scope and Contents
This small collection consists of six photographs featuring mannequins or pieces of mannequins manufactured by the American Marvelle Company. There are unclothed men, women, and children forms posed in various positions. There are some images that contain just a torso with a head or just a head; however, most images contain multiple mannequins.
