Historical Note
Commercial art, or advertising art, is art created for an enterprise to communicate reasons to buy goods and services, to create a recognizable logo, or to detail the correct performance of a task. Commercial artists design and create advertisements, logos, bill boards, brochures, book covers, and product packaging among other artwork. Two main areas of specialization for commercial art are illustration and graphic design. Illustrators create images for published print materials like books, magazines, and stationary. Graphic designers create artwork and layouts for published print materials as well as television, the Internet, and product packaging.
