The Erie City Iron Works in Erie, Pennsylvania, was a major manufacturer of boilers, stationary and portable engines, and machinery for sawmills and steam riveting. Scope and Content
These are five reproductions of nineteenth century photographs from the Erie City Iron Works. One is an exterior of the plant. The four others are posed photographs of employee groups: blacksmiths; machinists; pattern makers and moulders; boiler makers. One photograph is internally dated August 21, 1871, but it is reasonable to believe two others were made on that date. Each group is placed similiarly at the same location in front of the factory and are posed with some tools from their respective trades. The final photograph seems to come from the same period.
