Biographical / Historical
Peter Butenhoff (b. 1943) was a marketing professional at DuPont. He also held the position of Product Superintendent at the Seaford, Delaware site. He also spent time in Japan as Managing Director of DuPont in Japan.
Scope and Contents
In his interview, Peter Butenhoff describes his career in marketing at DuPont. He details his early work on spunbonded products followed by involvement in the direct use marketing of knitwear. He describes working in DuPont’s offices in the Empire State Building in New York, DuPont’s marketing strategies of the 1960s through the 1980s, and his assignments with Orlon, nylon, and automotive products. He then describes his assignment as Product Superintendent at Seaford, where he participated in the type 44 conversion. He also mentions his roles as Staple and BCF Superintendent at Seaford. He then relates his assignment as Managing Director of DuPont Japan during a period in which DuPont was establishing a worldwide presence. Throughout the interview, he comments on the work to save DuPont’s spunbonded business.
