Scope and Content
This subseries documents Prince, which was built by Fuji Precision Machinery Company of Tokyo, Japan (1955-1961), Prince Motors Limited of Tokyo, Japan (1961-1966), and the Prince Motors Limited Division of Nissan Motor Company, which was located in Tokyo, Japan (1966-1967).
Prince traces its origins to the Tachikawa Aircraft Company, which was founded in 1924. After World War II, Tachikawa renamed itself Fuji Precision Machinery Company and diversified into automobiles. The company started selling its cars under the Prince nameplate in 1952 and renamed itself Prince Motors in 1961. During its brief existence, it became a noted Japanese manufacturer of premium cars.
Prince Motors Limited merged with Nissan Motor Company in 1966. Nissan discontinued the Prince nameplate in 1968. See also Datsun and Nissan (Japan).
