Scope and Content
This subseries documents Hyundai Motor Company, Limited of Seoul, Korea. Part of the Hyundai industrial group, Hyundai Motor Corporation was founded in 1967 and started building Ford Cortinas in cooperation with Ford Motor Company a year later. In 1975, Hyundai introduced the Pony, the first car of its own design, which used a Mitsubishi powertrain.
The firm started exporting the Pony in 1976, which found acceptance in overseas markets, and the company soon grew into a multinational automaker. Hyundai started exporting cars to the United States in 1986 and remains in the American market to the present day. Hyundai is currently South Korea's largest automaker.
