Scope and Content
This subseries documents Durant Motors, Incorporated of New York City; Lansing, Michigan; Muncie, Indiana; Elizabeth, New Jersey; Long Island City, New York; Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Leaside, Ontario, Canada; and Syracuse, New York. Durant was founded in 1921 by William C. Durant after his second ouster from General Motors Corporation. It sought to be a direct competitor to General Motors. The firm fielded a number of nameplates, including DeVaux, Dort, Durant, Eagle, Flint, Frontenac, Rugby, and Star. Durant Motors, Incorporated went out of business in 1931.
