Scope and Content
This subseries documents De Tomaso Automobili S.p.A. of Modena, Italy. Founded in 1959 by Alejandro De Tomaso, the firm is best known for being a manufacturer of exotic sports cars and luxury cars. From 1971 to 1973 De Tomaso sold its Ford-powered Pantera sports car in the United States through Lincoln-Mercury dealers. Over the course of its business life, the firm has also been the owner of Innocenti (1975-1990) and Maserati (1976-1993), both of which were later taken over by Fiat S.p.A. De Tomaso went into liquidation in 2004 and was purchased by Gian Mario Rossignolo in 2009. See also Innocenti and Maserati.
