Scope and Content
This subseries documents Cadillac, which was built by Cadillac Automobile Company of Detroit, Michigan (1902-1905); Cadillac Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan (1905-1909); the Cadillac Division of General Motors Corporations, which is located in Warren, Michigan (1909-Present).
Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland from the remanants of the Henry Ford Company (whose founder Henry Ford later went on to found Ford Motor Company). The firm was purchased by General Motors Corporation in 1909. From 1927-1940, Cadillac was the manufacturer of companion make LaSalle. Cadillac is presently the prestige make in General Motors' product hierarchy. See also General Motors and LaSalle.
