Scope and Content
This subseries documents Buick, which was built by Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company (1899-1903); Buick Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan (1903-1908); and the Buick Division of General Motors Corporation, which is located in Flint, Michigan (1908-Present).
Founded by David Dunbar Buick, the firm was taken over by William Durant in 1904. Under Durant's leadership, Buick became the initial building block of General Motors Corporation in 1908. From 1929-1930, Buick was also the manufacturer of companion make Marquette. Buick is currently the oldest active American automobile make. It is presently a premium make in General Motors' product hierarchy. See also General Motors and Marquette.
