Borgward was formed in 1929 when founder Carl F.W. Borgward merged Goliath-Werke Borgward & Company with Hansa Lloyd AG. Over the course of Borgward's business life, the firm's vehicles were marketed under under the Hansa, Borgward Hansa, and Borgward nameplates. Carl F.W. Borgward GmbH went bankrupt in 1961, but Borgward vehicles continued to be built in Argentina until 1965, and in Mexico until 1970. See also Borgward (Mexico), Goliath, and Lloyd.
