Scope and Content
This subseries documents AC Cars, which was built by Autocars & Accessories Limited of London, England (1908-1911); Autocarriers (1911) Limited of Thames Ditton, England (1911-1912); A.C. Cars Limited of Thames Ditton, England. (1922-1984); A.C. (Scotland) Limited of Glasgow, Scotland (1984-1985); C.P. Autokraft Limited of Weybridge, England (1986-1990); A.C. Car Group Limited of Weybridge, England (1996 to 2009) and AC Cars (2009-2012).
Founded in 1904, A.C. started out as manufacturer of three-wheeled cyclecars, but moved up to four-wheeled cars in 1913. Over the course of its existence, AC Cars was best known for being a manufacturer of limited edition sports cars. It was also known for supplying bodies and chassis for the Shelby Cobra. AC Cars has changed hands a number of times and is currently owned by Acedes Holdings LLC. See also Shelby.
