Biographical Note
Frank Ledlie Moore (1846-1938) worked as a civil engineer and architect, with a twenty-year stretch as a flower grower in between engineering work.
Moore was born in New York City to Hannah Dominick Moore (1804-1852) and Jared Land Moore (1796-1853). He was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1878, he married Caroline Frances “Carrie” Belcher Moore (1858-1947); the couple had seven children. As early as 1870, Moore was working as a civil engineer; later, he worked as an architect while he and his family lived in Poughkeepsie, New York. Between 1900 and 1920, the federal census lists his work as a flower grower. By 1930, Moore had sold his farm to his son, Jared Blanchard "Jerry" Moore (1893–1995), and Moore went back to work as a civil engineer.
Carrie Moore's parents were Charles S. Belcher (1832-1871) and Anna Maria Morgan (1825-1883), who were married in 1853 in Brooklyn, New York. Carrie Moore was their only child. Charles Belcher worked as the superintendent at the Aerated Bread Company at 9 and 11 Hoyt Street on Long Island. His father, William Nathan Belcher (1798-1880), and grandfather, Elisha Belcher (1757-1825), were both doctors. (Elisha Belcher was a Revolutionary War surgeon.)
