Francoise Robin du Pont (1748-1841) was the second wife of Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739-1817), a prominent French political economist, writer, publisher, and public administrator. This small collection of du Pont's papers (copies) consist primarily of correspondence to her relatives in Lyon, France between 1804 and 1834, there are some additional papers such as a legal document, a handcopied poem, a medical receipt, and two tributes to her first husband, Pierre Poivre (1719-1786).

Biographical Note
Françoise Robin du Pont (1748-1841) was the second wife of Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739-1817) a promienent French political economist, writer, publisher, and public administrator.
Françoise Robin was a daughter of Antoine Robin de Livet (1705-1772) of Lyon. Her first husband, Pierre Poivre (1719-1786), was a naturalist and author. They lived for a time on the Ile de France and returned to France in 1773. There were two daughters by this marriage: Marie Marguerite Sara (1773-1814) and Françoise Julienne (1770-1845) who married Jean Xavier Bureaux Pusy (1750-1806).
Françoise married second, Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739-1817) at Chevannes in 1795; she was his second wife. She and her son-in-law, Jean Xavier Bureaux de Pusy, sailed from Rotterdam in 1799 to find and establish a home in the United States for the remainder of the family, who joined them several months later. She selected property in Bergen Point, New Jersey, which the family called "Goodstay."
Poivre and du Pont de Nemours returned to France in 1802. When her husband went back to the United States in 1815, she remained in France due to a hip injury. She was preparing to return when she received word of her husband's death. After his death, she maintained correspondence with the du Pont family until her death in Paris in 1841.
Scope and Contents
This small collection of du Pont's papers (copies) consist primarily of correspondence to her relatives in Lyon, France between 1804 and 1834, there are some additional papers such as a legal document, a handcopied poem, a medical receipt, and two tributes to her first husband, Pierre Poivre (1719-1786).
The correspondence is comprised of eighteen letters from Françoise du Pont de Nemours to relatives in Lyon, members of the Guerre, Livet, and Torembert families. Included is a letter announcing the engagement of Maurice de Pusy to Mathilde de La Fayette, granddaughter of the general. The letters date from 1804 to 1834.
There is one letter of du Pont de Nemours to M. Guerre, 13 Nivose XII (January 4, 1804), signed by his wife.
Poem "Ode sur la Grèce abandonnée," in an unidentified hand, signed "un Eleve en Rhétorique d(es) Jésuites," undated (circa 1825), 2 pages plus docketing.
Legal document, dated October 17, 1812, regarding the succession of Françoise Robin du Pont de Nemours.
Receipted medical bill, dated September 8, 1793, signed by public health officer Bouveyron, for services rendered to Citoyenne Guerre, living with Citoyenne Robin.
Two tributes to Pierre Poivre, one a "Notice" copied in an unidentified hand from Dictionnaire de la Conversation, 7 pages, and the second a draft signed "Torombert."
