Dixie Cup, maker of the disposable paper cup, merged with American Can Company in 1957. During the early 1970s, the firm expanded into other paper products. In 1977, the company began to further diversify its products from packaging paper and forest products to financial services and specialty retailing.

However, in 1986, the firm sold its corporate headquarters in Greenwich, Connecticut. In June 1987, the company changed its name to Primerica and focused solely on financial services.

Scope and Contents

This small collection includes annual reports, company newsletters, company magazines, and employee newsletters. The target audience for these materials was employees and stockholders. The issues provide information about the company's operations, procedures, processes, history, and finances.

There are twelve annual reports dating from 1950 through 1978. Several internal company and employee newsletters (although only a few issues of each) provide information about employee highlights, individual departments, and industry information. There are several informational booklets about the company that appear to be for new employees or investors. Of particular interest is an information manual created from 1947 to 1953 containing a wealth of information about the company, the process of making tin cans, and the industry.
