Abstract

Gardner Associates performs oral history research for corporations and institutions in the Delaware Valley area. The company was founded in 1987 by Joel R. Gardner (1942-). Gardner Associates records reflect the company's business operations from 1988 through 2014. The collection has been arranged into three series: Administrative and consulting files; Clients and proposals; and Articles, publications, and presentations. The Clients and proposals series is the largest series, consisting of correspondence, research notes, interview transcripts, and project proposals.

Gardner Associates performs oral history research for corporations and institutions in the Delaware Valley area. The company was founded in 1987 by Joel R. Gardner (1942-). Gardner received his Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Tulane University in 1962, and a Master of Arts degree in journalism from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1966.

Gardner Associates is headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. It provides consulting services specializing in oral history, archives, and historical research. Clients have included the Earhart Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, Grove City College, Columbia University, and Memorial Hospital of Burlington County. The firm is responsible for client and project development, including interviewing, processing tapes and transcripts, managing staff and freelance associates, oversight of budgets, and financial planning.

The Administrative and consulting files series consists of correspondence, office photographs, business permits, and insurance. There are also the Glouchester County Historical Society's long-range plans and contracts with the Free Library of Philadelphia for rare book cataloging. The series is arranged in chronological order. The Clients and proposals series is the largest series, consisting of correspondence, research notes, interview transcripts, and project proposals. There are research documents, reports, and publication drafts. The series is arranged in alphabetical order by client name, and dates from 1988 to 2014. The Articles, publications, and presentations series includes published articles by Gardner and about Gardner, press releases, and presentations and workshops given by Gardner. The materials are arranged in alphabetical order, and date from 1985 to 2004.
