Historical Note
Anguera & Curren was a Philadelphia trading firm operating the schooners Henry Camerdon, Ann Eliza, Cyane, Mirror and the brigs Emily Davis and Bourne. The firm had its office at 77 South Wharves.
Joseph (José) M. Anguera (circa 1805-1865?) and Martin Curren (circa 1810-1859) were business partners. The firm applied to the Court of Common Pleas for insolvency in 1837. After the dissolution of the company, the two went their separate ways.
Anguera moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he continued working as a commissioned merchant, operating out of 25 Gravier Street. He owned several other properties that he rented out.
A census from 1850 shows Curren working as a merchant, living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with his wife Frances Adelaide (Roberts) Curren (circa 1825-1909) and two children.
