Biographical note
Diego Rivera (1886-1957) was a prominent Mexican painter and muralist whose large frescos helped establish the mural movement in Mexican and international art. A committed communist and longtime friend of Leon Trotsky (1879-1940), his work often reflects political and social themes. He was married to painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954).
