Biographical note

Jozef G. Bakos, also known as Joseph Bakos, (1891-1977) was a painter who specialized in landscapes of the American West. Bakos was one of Los Cinco Pintores, a group of early twentieth-century artists working in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that included William Howard Shuster Jr. (1893-1969), Fremont Ellis (1897-1985), Walter Mruk (1883-1942), and Willard Ayer Nash (1898-1943). The group produced works that depicted the New Mexico landscape, local adobe architecture, and Native American ceremonial dances.
