Historical Note
The short-lived DuPont Ammonia Corporation was formed in 1929 and dissolved in 1931 when its assets and business turned over to the newly organized Ammonia Department within the parent company. DuPont had previously begun Lazote, Inc. in 1924 as a joint venture to manufacture ammonia by the Claude (French) process and formed the DuPont Ammonia Corporation upon acquiring a minority interest in Lazote, Inc. In 1925, DuPont licensed the Casale (Italian) process while continuing its own research into ammonia synthesis. The company operated a plant at Belle, West Virginia, for the manufacture of synthetic ammonia, with synthetic methanol as a by-product.
