Historical Note

This company was consolidated with Continental Powder Manufacturing Co. in July 1891, and its incorporation was transferred to West Virginia. The company was sold to the DuPont Company in 1906. Phoenix operated three plants: Farmingdale (New Jersey), Kellogg (West Virginia), and Belleville. (Illinois). In 1896, the DuPont Company, Laflin & Rand, American, Austin, and Miami companies took over the business. The Phoenix Mills was not allowed to operate, but they could buy powder from the Association and resell it. After six years, they operated two plants.
