Scope and Contents
This subseries consists of research project materials related to Catalyst’s Center for Career and Leadership Development. Established with a three-year grant from the Helen F. Whitaker Fund, the center was envisioned as a multifaceted program that included roundtable discussions explaining the dynamics of upward mobility, publication of leadership profiles of high-level women, organizational development programs, gender awareness training for male managers and leadership training for women, and the development of a system for tracking existing and emerging corporate programs for women. Materials include the Upward Mobility study project (1982-1983); files of international contacts, including several collaborations; background materials on academic programs for women managers; topical files that include interviews with women and men conducted as part of the Leadership Development program (1986); and a small research project on entrepreneurship that resulted in the report, “Why Women Are Really Bailing Out: A Study of Women’s Departure from Corporate Life to Entrepreneurship” (1986). The subseries also contains two Catalyst outreach programs: Catalyst Corporate Institute and the Catalyst Fellows Center, as well as a proposed survey (collaborating with Yankelovich Partners) on professional and managerial women.
