Scope and Contents
This series contains three volumes of James Antoine Bidermann's (1790-1865) personal financial records as well as accounting records established by the company for the family of Alexis I. du Pont (1816-1857) after he was killed as the result of an explosion in the powder yards 1857. The remainder of the series comprises miscellaneous material, largely administrative, related to the DuPont Company. These include papers relating to explosion victims, county tax receipts, agent reports, inventories of powder mills in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, tables of velocities and gunpowder grain diameter, remaining correspondence, a gold bullion certificate book, and a scrapbook of news clippings relevant to the gunpowder industry.
