Scope and Contents

The Corporate series has materials relating to the running of BBDO, from daily operations to stockholder meetings, awards won to uses of the BBDO name, and the office building itself. The series is comprised of six sub-series: Operations, Notices, BBDO name, Staff and corporate events, Office building, and Awards.

The Operations subseries include agency directories and profiles, office handbooks and manuals, employee relations, organizational charts, standards of practice, state of the agency, and stockholder meetings. The material relates to the day-to-day operation of the agency, and the standards employees were to follow.

The Notices subseries includes company-wide memoranda, news, information, to your health, newsletter extras, and other relevant material sent to employees to keep them informed on the larger company. Additionally, bulletins, memoranda, and notes sent by Andrew Robertson, BBDO CEO and president, to staff beginning in 2004, when he assumed the position.

The BBDO name subseries include the use of BBDO's name, a study of BBDO's reputation, BBDO's history set within the larger context, and articles about BBDO. It also includes Jack Benny's radio show, which jokes Batten, Barton, Durstine and Osborn sounds like a trunk falling downstairs.

The Staff and corporate events subseries is primarily photographs, but also negatives and contact sheets from staff and corporate events BBDO held. These events include Christmas parties, kid's day, annual picnic, blood drive, and awards. Also included in the subseries is a film about NASA technology and the building of the Kennedy Space Center circa 1966.

The Office building subseries consists primarily of photographs of the BBDO office at 383 Madison Avenue but also includes articles, artist sketches, and design concepts for alterations to office spaces. It includes images from various departments, exterior and interior photographs, construction, sketches of Central Filing (an employee-only bar), and a film showing the offices and what BBDO does for clients from the 1940s. Photographs date from the 1930s to the 1980s, with the bulk being from the 1970s.

The Awards subseries contains awards won by and given to BBDO, including the Harvard award, which it won six years consecutively, from 1925 to 1930. A few plaques and certificates are included.
