Historical Note
In 1874, William Simpson & Sons formed a separate sales company under the name William Simpson, Sons & Company. William Simpson & Sons managed production at the Falls of Schuylkill site. In 1877, William Simpson & Sons formed The Eddystone Manufacturing Company, Limited, to handle production at the Eddystone, Pennsylvania, plant. The sales company continued with organizational changes until eventually acquired by Joseph Bancroft Sons & Company in 1947.
Scope and Contents
William Simpson, Sons & Company records include administrative records, accounting volumes, product sample books, a trademarks and labels scrapbook, and cloth samples. The administrative records include partnership agreements, letters patent, other loose papers, and several volumes relating to stocks. The accounting volumes include several day books, order and sales records, and other general accounting records. The sample books all date to the first decade of the twentieth century and demonstrate the range of materials the company was responsible for selling. The final series in this record group includes a trademarks and labels scrapbook, and cloth samples and holder, and a pamphlet listing dry goods wholesalers.
