Historical Note
Joseph Bancroft & Sons Company of Pennsylvania was a subsidiary of Joseph Bancroft & Sons Company, which operated cotton mills in Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1910, the company purchased a plant in Reading, Pennsylvania, and incorporated the Joseph Bancroft & Sons Company of Pennsylvania on May 28, 1911. Subsequently, all manufacturing was concentrated at Reading, with the Rockford and Kentmere facilities in Wilmington, Delaware, devoted to bleaching, dyeing, and finishing. The company's manufacturing operations at Reading were liquidated in 1957.
Scope and Contents
This record group includes administrative, accounting, production and inventory, and construction records.
The administrative records include incorporation papers, reports and minute books of the Board of Directors, limited Operating and Advisory Committee records, Treasurers' reports and statements, real estate reports regarding company housing, a stock certificate book, and multiple deeds and agreements, including documents regarding the sale and liquidation of the Reading Plant.
The accounting records in account books, cash books, and various appraisals.
The production records and inventories include cost studies, cloth inventories, and several volumes of inventories of the Reading location.
The construction records include one volume of specifications, several Reading mill blueprints, and several folders of related papers.
