Historical Note
The Millsboro Trust Company (Millsboro, 1907-1970) was incorporated in Delaware, April 9, 1907. Under its original name, the Millsboro Trust and Safe Deposit Company, the bank initially functioned as a small savings (i.e., trust) and loan company for the predominantly rural residents of Millsboro. It granted loans for home repair and construction, small businesses, and discounted promissory notes.
During the Depression Millsboro, Trust Company borrowed large sums of money from the Farmer's Bank of Delaware and the Corn Exchange National Bank of Philadelphia. The Millsboro Trust Company survived the next thirty years with these loans until it merged with the Bank of Delaware on November 16, 1970.
