Industrial designers, design projects, and design schools, 1936-2010
Part of collection: Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) records (2753)
Dates
- Creation: 1936-2010
Scope and Contents
The Industrial designers, design projects, and design school series primarily consists of materials that document the work of certain industrial designers or particular design projects. This series provides insight into the design choices or philosophies that guided a particular designer or project. The series is not a complete representation of IDSA members or their work. Rather, it is simply a collection of what survived in IDSA files as a result of special exhibits and promotional mailings that IDSA received.
This series is divided into three subseries: Industrial designers; Design projects; and Design schools.
The Industrial designers subseries includes materials generated by individual designers and design firms. It is arranged alphabetically. Most designers and firms are minimally represented. However, Arnold Wolf (1927-2013), a designer best known for his loudspeaker designs, and Robert I. Goldberg (d. 2014), who was involved with package design, are well represented through correspondence files. Goldberg’s publications are also present here.
The Design projects subseries includes materials that document a particular design project, such as a product, building, or space. The materials include promotional or informational booklets, placards, or other ephemera. Most projects are minimally represented. The subseries is arranged alphabetically.
The Design schools subseries only contains materials related to Universidade Anhembi Morumbi and University of Louisiana Lafayette. Videos depicting student work comprise the bulk of the material in this subseries.
