Scope and Contents

The Telecommunications Competition and Deregulation Act of 1981 proposed similar amendments to the 1934 Communications Act to H.R. 6121, regarding deregulation of AT&T business activities through subsidiaries, and replacement of separations and settlements with a new structure of access charges. After passing in the U.S. Senate concurring legislation, H.R. 5158, was introduced in the House and referred to the Subcommittee on Communications, where it was withdrawn from consideration by Rep. Timothy Wirth.
