Scope and Contents
The Records of Presidents and Chairmen series includes papers from five NAM presidents: E. Douglas Kenna, R. Heath Larry, Alexander “Sandy” Trowbridge, Jerry Jasinowski, and John Engler, as well as three chairmen: Arthur “Don” Wainwright, Archie Dunham, and Richard E. Dauch.
E. Douglas Kenna (1924-2013) served as president of NAM from 1973 to 1977. These files are arranged alphabetically and deal with the proposed — and rejected — merger between NAM and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the mid-1970s.
R. Heath Larry (1914-2011) served as president of NAM from 1977 to 1980. These files are separated into two sections. The first grouping of folders are chronological files, which include correspondence to and from Larry. The second grouping of folders is predominately speeches and articles Larry wrote during his presidency. Topics include: National Industrial Council (NIC), collective bargaining, labor law reform, scarcity, government and private sector, and technology transfer. Each section is arranged chronologically.
Alexander B. “Sandy” Trowbridge (1929-2006) served as president of NAM from 1980 to 1990. This subseries is comprised of correspondence to and from Trowbridge as well as schedules that include meetings and travel arrangements. Files are arranged in chronological order.
Jerry Jasinowski (1939- ) served as president of NAM from 1990 to 2006. The files include correspondence, memorandums, and other materials , and are arranged chronologically. Also included are five folders of letters from 1984 to 1989, when Jasinowski worked as the executive vice president.
John Engler (1948- ) served as president of NAM from 2006 to 2011. Files are organized alphabetically. In addition to subject files, the subseries includes chronological files, correspondence, reading files, and schedules. The correspondence files are organized alphabetically by company, then chronologically, as necessary. The reading files include articles, memorandums, and other material deemed important for Engler to be aware of and read.
Arthur “Don” Wainwright (1941- ), Archie Dunham (1938- ), and Richard E. Dauch (1942-2013) all served as chairman of NAM in 2002, 2003, and 2004 respectively. Each of these subseries includes papers from their tenure relating to travel itineraries, memorandums, and correspondence .
