Scope and Contents
The International series is divided into the following four subseries:
Subseries A. Seagram International, 1977-1984
This subseries includes long-range plans; profit plans; and records of Seagram Thailand and Seagram Far East. The Seagram Far East records mainly pertain to marketing and a Korean joint venture project.
Subseries B. SOSCO (Seagram Overseas Sales Company), 1957-1983
This subseries contains the records of SOSCO (Seagram Overseas Sales Company) and is divided into three sections: 1) records of the Executive staff; 2) Correspondence; and 3) Advertising and Promotions Records. (1) The Executive staff section contains the records of seven SOSCO executives: James E. McDonough, President (chronological correspondence, 1972-1974); Robert I. Gandel, Vice President (correspondence, 1975-1976); Harry Denehy, Vice President International Special Markets (1968-1978); Daniel D. Daly, Budget Manager (1977-1978); C. W. Granda, Export Manager (Chronological correspondence, 1973, 1975; George Sternberg, Regional Manager - Carribean and South America (1974-1977); and John B. Finneran (correspondence and reports regarding Japan and Korea 1978-1980). (2) The Correspondence section (1972-1982) is arranged by country and pertains to international operations. (3) Advertising and Promotions records are listed in the following order: Country Files, Advertising and Sales Promotions Department, Market Reports, and miscellany. Company country files (1971-1974) include correspondence and documentation of payments. The Advertising and Sales Promotions Department (1957-1964) materials relate to advertising and promotions. Market Reports (1970-1982) are arranged by country. The Miscellany section (1971-1983) includes promotions for 100 Pipers Scotch and YO.
Subseries C. Seagram Wine Company and Seagram Vintners International, Inc., 1971-1986
This subseries contains the records of three company executives. (1) The files of Michael P.R. Cliff, Executive Vice President of Seagram Vintners International, include "S" Reviews (FY 1979 savings program) for various countries; correspondence and other records regarding overseas wine subsidiaries; and chronological correspondence (1971-1983). (2) The records of Samuel Bronfman II, Executive Vice President for Sales of Seagram Wine Co., contain correspondence on subjects including sales, promotions, public relations, distributors and legal concerns; and reports regarding merchandising, budgets and marketing (1981-1986). (3) The files of Jag Sharma, Director of Budget and Planning for Seagram Vintners International, include regional fiscal plans, profit proposals and "S" program reviews (1978).
Subseries D. Miscellaneous Records, 1969-1979
This subseries contains five sections. (1) Distributor records (1972-1975) are mainly comprised of correspondence regarding sales including pricing, promotions and budgets. (2) Distributor Consulting Services files (1975-1978) include Chivas Brothers Ltd. organizational charts and "S" reviews for the Quality Control department and Seagram U.K. (3) International Administration records (1976-1979) contain correspondence and reports regarding administration of all aspects of international operations. (4) Internal Audits span 1969-1978. (5) And International Operations records (1977-1978) pertain to administration, financing, marketing, packaging and plant development in Japan.
