Scope and Contents
The Treasury department series is divided into the following five series:
Subseries A. James Friel, Treasurer, 1933-1955
This subseries contains records relating to trademarks; various agreements and compliance with them; correspondence regarding acquisitions, financing, insurance, and investments; correspondence with accounting firm Price Waterhouse; and stock exchange listings.
Subseries B. Joseph G. Friel, Secretary and Assistant Treasurer, 1933-1958
The records of Joseph G. Friel include correspondence regarding acquisitions, company accounting, banking and finance; and various agreements and contracts and their disposition.
Subseries C. Oil Company Records, 1951-1960
These are the files of Frank E. Desmond, Treasury staff person responsible for oil matters, and contain correspondence, agreements, oil leases and some operating records regarding Seagram's oil interests
Subseries D. Thomas E. Garrity - Financial Data, 1969-1975
This subseries contains financial data regarding European operations.
Subseries E. Departmental Records, 1917-1973
The Departmental records subseries is divided into three sections: (1) Corporate Documentation; (2) Agreement Files; and (3) Financial Records. (1) Corporate Documentation (1929-1972) includes stock listings; JES debentures; financial records, minute books, stock books and correspondence from some domestic subsidiaries; and articles of incorporation, agreements of mergers and miscellaneous corporate records for defunct companies. (2) Agreement files (1917-1961, bulk 1940-1959) regard domestic companies. (3) Financial records (1930-1973) include financial statements, general ledgers and payroll and tax records for various domestic companies.
