Scope and Contents
The Marketing series is comprised of the following seven subseries:
Subseries A. Head Office, 1942-1981
Records of the Head Office are divided into three parts. (1) The department files pertain to technical and production issues. (2) The Office of Information section includes a) the records of its manager, Allen Bernfield and materials from b) Seagram-sponsored Golf Tournaments. a) Bernfield's records are mainly correspondence and regard subjects such as business education day; event sponsorship; and distribution of Stephen Leacock's Canada: the Foundation of It's Future. b) Golf tournament documentation includes clippings and scrapbooks. (3) This section contains records of the PR consulting firm Public & Industrial Relations, Ltd. (PIR). These files document the efforts of the company of behalf of-Seagram and include publication of Canadian Journey; various promotions for House of Seagram liqueurs; dinners and receptions; event sponsorship; and promotional publications. The records also include media summaries and press clipping files on the company and the Bronfman family. A file on the Seagram Museum provides information about the museum's inception and opening ceremonies.
Subseries B. Marketing Department - Light Spirits, 1984-1990, bulk 1988-1990
This subseries documents selected promotions and advertising on behalf of Captain Morgan and several other brands. A small group of departmental records includes correspondence, policies of the provincial liquor control boards, and financial reports.
Subseries C. Marketing Information Services, 1972-1983
This Marketing Information Services subseries contains correspondence files; sales reports; and literature from the Association of Canadian Distillers including reports from the Media Expense Tracking System (METS) and National Advertising Expenditure Reports.
Subseries D. Media Services, 1977-1994
Advertising scrapbooks comprise the bulk of this series. The scrapbooks contain magazine tearsheets and a few advertising proofs from Seagram products and competitive brands.
Subseries E. Sales, 1947-1961
This synthetic subseries is divided into two sections. (1) Correspondence with overseas agents pertains to Caribbean and South American sales activities in 1948 and UK efforts in 1950-1951. (2) Sales ledgers tally transactions in Ontario, Quebec, the World Market and at Liquor Control Boards.
Subseries F. Advertising Artwork, 1954-1965
This subseries contains mostly paste-up and story boards.
Subseries G. Miscellany, 1959
This subseries contains a partially completed advertisement for Calvert Old Rye with type set, but no graphics.
