Scope and Contents
The series consists of twenty-four books assembled to showcase the work of William Pahlmann Associates, presumably to prospective clients. These books consist primarily of black and white photographs from many of Pahlmann's most notable jobs. Professional photographers took a majority of these photographs for William Pahlmann Associates, the clients, or for publication in periodicals such as Interiors Magazine or Architectural Digest. Often ephemera such as advertising materials, menus, and product samples are pasted in or inserted between pages of these books.
The Client Photo Presentation Books supplement many of the materials found in the Publicity Books Series, the Publicity/Photo Files Series, the Publicity Materials Series, and the Phonograph Records Series. The Client Photo Presentation Books and Publicity/Photo Files provide a thorough visual documentation of Pahlmann's work whereas the Publicity Books give written descriptions of his many activities. The Publicity Materials Series also documents Pahlmann's work and provides much background information for items in the other four series. All five series, considered together, build a comprehensive picture of Pahlmann's style, his clientele, and most importantly how he wanted himself depicted in the media and to potential clients.
Pahlmann created an index to the Client Photo Presentation Books, titled "Index to Photo and Presentation Book." This index is located in the Publicity/Photo Files Series in Box 1, Folder 2. Pahlmann's index, although a good overall guide, is not a thorough listing of all items in the Client Photo Presentation Books.
